Popeye Spinach Balls

Ingredients

• 1 can (13.5 oz.) Popeye Chopped Spinach, drained
• 1 cup herb-seasoned stuffing mix
• 1/2 cup (2 oz.) grated Parmesan cheese
• 3 eggs
• 6 Tablespoons butter or margarine, softened

Directions
Preheat oven to 375?F. Lightly grease baking sheet; set aside. Squeeze spinach dry. Combine spinach, stuffing mix, and cheese. Stir in eggs and butter. Mix well. Shape into thirty-five 1-inch balls. Place on prepared baking sheet. Bake 15 to 20 minutes until lightly browned. Serve hot.

Popeye Spinach Triangles

Ingredients

• 1 can (13.5 oz.) Popeye Spinach
• 1/4 to 1/2 lb. butter, melted
• 6 green onions, minced
• 1 cup crumbled Feta cheese
• 2 Tablespoons fresh breadcrumbs
• 1 egg
• 1/4 cup minced parsley
• 1 Tablespoon chopped fresh dill weed
• Fresh ground pepper
• 8 or 12 phyllo pastry sheets
• 1/2 cup fresh bread crumbs (four slices)

Directions

Preheat oven to 375?F. Drain spinach well, pressing to remove as much moisture as possible. Saute onion in 1 Tablespoon butter. Combine onions, spinach, cheese, 2 Tablespoons breadcrumbs, egg, parsley, dill weed, and pepper.

Triangles: Brush 1 sheet phyllo dough with melted butter. Cut into 2-inch wide strips. Cover remaining dough with wax paper and damp towel to prevent drying. With 2-inch edge toward you, place 1 level teaspoon cheese mixture on left hand corner of strip. Fold corner with filling up and to the right, diagonally and straight until a triangle is formed. Place on a baking sheet; brush with melted butter. Repeat with remaining dough. Bake for 10 to 15 minutes until puffy and brown.Serve warm.

Slices: Place 1 phyllo sheet lengthwise in front of you on a sheet of waxed paper. Brush with butter and sprinkle with fresh breadcrumbs. Repeat until 4 phyllo sheets are stacked. Spread 1/3 of spinach mixture over top phyllo sheet. Roll tightly as for a jelly roll, using waxed paper to lift and guide the roll. Transfer to baking sheet. Brush with melted butter. Repeat until 3 rolls are made, keeping the remaining phyllo dough covered with waxed paper and a damp towel as you work to prevent drying. Bake for 30 to 35 minutes.

Cut into 1-inch slices using a serrated or electric knife. Refrigerated, canned crescent rolls may be substituted for phyllo pastry sheets.

LOS ANGELES --?Judy Garland's blue and white gingham dress from "The Wizard of Oz" sold for $480,0000 at a Beverly Hills auction on Saturday, while a slice of Prince William's wedding cake fetched $1,375.

Julien's Auctions said the price for the pinafore dress and white puffy-sleeved blouse that Garland wore throughout the 1939 film classic was in line with estimates.?

But it was well below the sky-high figures paid last year for Hollywood costumes worn by Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn, and a similar dress worn during tests for "The Wizard of Oz" that fetched $910,000 in 2011.?

Auctioneer Darren Julien said the price difference was due to the fact that only a few test dresses were made for "The Wizard of Oz," while there are about seven versions of Garland's signature gingham pinafore.?

The buyer of the Judy Garland dress, made by MGM costume designer Adrian, was not identified.?

Other highlights of the two-day Hollywood Icons sale included a green floral dress worn by Julie Andrews in several scenes of the movie "The Sound of Music," which sold for $38,400.?

A racing jacket belonging to Steve McQueen sold for $50,000, while a purple wool skirt worn by Monroe in Canada while making the 1954 film "River of No Return" also went for $50,000.?

Cake from two British royal weddings also fetched high prices at the auction. Julien's said that representatives of PawnUp.com led the bidding to obtain the slice of cake from Prince William's and Kate Middleton's 2011 wedding, as well as a piece from Prince Charles' and Princess Diana's 1981 nuptials ($1,375).?

Prices have soared in recent years for top Hollywood costumes. Marilyn Monroe's white "subway dress" from the 1955 movie "The Seven Year Itch" sold for $4.6 million last year, and Audrey Hepburn's Ascot dress from "My Fair Lady" fetched $3.7 million.?

Family of missing man fears the worst

BARBOURVILLE, Ky. (WKYT) - Beverly Foley has so many fond memories of November 9th. It was the day she was born?and the day 27 years ago she gave birth to her son?.Jonathan.

?I miss him terribly. I got this morning..each day gets worse..instead of better,? said the missing man?s mother Friday.

Since the national guardsman was serving his country in Iraq last year?.and involved in other activties before?this would have been the first birthday in several years that the two would have spent together.

?I?m hoping something today?with it being his birthday..will bring it to closure,? said Foley.

Foley was last seen Tuesday heading to Lee?s Food Mart in Barbourville. His truck was found covered in mud several miles away?near a factory close by Knox County Hospital.

His family says what was found inside that truck was very unusual.

?The seat was kind of scooted up. The driver?s seat. He?s a very tall person,? said Foley.

The Foleys say police told them they were planning to search the truck and gather evidence on Friday. Police were also said to be gathering surveillance video from the area where the truck was found. His family meanwhile is hoping for the best but fearing the worst.

?I?m feeling lost without him. I?m afraid he won?t be coming home. I hope he will,? said Charles Foley, Jr., the missing man?s father.

7 Email Marketing Strategies to Build Your Subscriber List

Email newsletters are one of the cheapest and easiest ways to stay in contact with your readers and customers, but like any other marketing technique, they must be used in the right way to grow. Here seven ways to grow your subscriber list.
1. Offer something for free ? It?s an amazing phenomenon ? consumers generally will subscribe to anything for a ?free? gift. Write an ebook about you industry and offer it to your new subscribers for free. Promote your ebook on your blog or website sidebar, encouraging your new and old readers to sign up for exclusive access. You?ll be able to capture email addresses to build your subscriber list while positioning yourself as an expert in your niche or industry. If your ebook is valuable enough to subscribers, they will be more likely to come back to your blog.
2. Offer exclusive content ? This one is a great way to encourage return readers of an already active blog or business website community. If your readers love what you write, offer additional ?bonus? content on a regular basis through your email subscriber list. Another idea is to offer quarterly bonus tips or tutorials for users who sign up for your subscriber list.

3. Offer a discount - In the same way customers will sign up for anything to get something free, they will sign up for an e-newsletter for a discount. Promote an offer ? a small discount or free product at signup ? and watch your subscriber list grow.
4. Make it easy ? Subscribers don?t want to jump through hoops to get your content. The more difficult it is to subscribe, the less likely people are to sign up. Also, make sure you have share buttons visible for email, Twitter and Facebook. Create an HTML version with a subscription box visible so your newsletter content can be spread more easily through social media.

6. Offer point-of-sale opt-in ? If you own a small business or an online business, offering point-of-sale opt-in is a simple and very effective way to build your subscriber list. This doesn?t have to be advanced ? if you have a brick-and-mortar store, ask for a name and email if your customer is interested. If you have an online store, ask if your buyer would like to subscribe as they are checking out. Bloggers can even join in with the point-of-sale technique: at the end of a blog post, ask your readers if they?d like to join your list.

7. Don?t abuse your list ? Your customers are giving you their personal information in exchange for your content, so make sure you don?t take advantage of it! Keep your enewsletters to a reasonable amount, and send our your newsletters in regular intervals and at a predictable time. Readers are generally overwhelmed with email, so your content has to be short, valuable and infrequent. Write short, catchy subjects so your readers know exactly what they will be getting, and never use ?bait and switch? measures to get them to open. Offer what you say you?ll be offering.

Post Superstorm Sandy, travelers prepare for a busy Thanksgiving

High fares, crowded roads and the lingering effects of Superstorm Sandy and its successors: When it comes to Thanksgiving travel, it?s going to take more than a ?perfect storm? of travel hassles to stop Americans from heading to the airport or hitting the road this year.

?If you?re still looking to book airfare, it?s going to be cost-prohibitive and you won?t find many seats,? said Anne Banas, executive editor at SmarterTravel.com. ?People who haven?t been able to get flights at an affordable price will end up driving or taking the train.?

Fliers, in particular, should expect plenty of company, says the industry trade group Airlines for America. The group, which released its annual holiday forecast on Wednesday, estimates that 24 million people will fly during the 12-day period between Nov. 16 and Nov. 27.

That?s up by just 150,000 passengers over last year but with continuing capacity cuts, the result has been high load factors ? they?re expected to be in the high 80s over the holiday, says A4A ? and steadily rising fares. According to Travelocity.com, this year?s average domestic Thanksgiving fare is up 9 percent over last year, to $386.

That, in turn, could prompt more travelers to get behind the wheel, especially as falling gas prices take some of the sting out of driving. On Monday, the national average for regular gas was $3.49 per gallon, down 6 cents from the previous week and 31 cents over the last month.

That?s to be expected, says Gregg Laskoski, senior petroleum analyst for GasBuddy.com, as overall seasonal demand drops and refineries switch to less-expensive winter blends.

?Despite all the recent chaos, we still see gas prices moving incrementally lower,? he told NBC News. ?We could see the average price at $3.30 or $3.25 by the end of the year.?

In the meantime, most travelers are finding that, outside of long gas lines in the Northeast, things are running relatively smoothly. ?I flew out of JFK on November 1 and it was easy,? said frequent traveler Maria Ferreras. ?There were no lines and no problems.?

In fact, Ferraras brings a unique perspective to traveling during large-scale weather events. A 25-year resident of St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, she?s not only lived through several hurricanes but was actually visiting family on Staten Island when Sandy hit.

?We were OK but it was like d?j? vu,? she said. ?It just gives you an eerie feeling.?

As for Thanksgiving, she was originally planning to return to New York but has since decided to postpone that trip until early December, although not because of the weather. ?I?m actually going to be feeding about 50 people so I figured I?d better stay,? she told NBC News.

Others directly impacted by Hurricane Sandy will likely take a similar approach. In Atlantic City, where the storm flooded streets and destroyed parts of the oceanfront boardwalk, it comes as no surprise that would-be travelers are opting to stay close to home.

?People who booked trips to get away are trying to restore their homes and deal with their losses,? said Tom Lipiros, owner of Margate Travel Service. ?A few have postponed their plans but most have canceled them.?

As for travel to the area, it appears things are getting back on track even as another storm makes its way toward the Northeast. In Atlantic City, most casinos reopened last weekend and Lipiros reports that there haven?t been many cancellations for the holidays.

Things are also returning to normal in New York, at least in the areas most often frequented by travelers. Most hotels, theaters and attractions in midtown Manhattan are open, although others, primarily in the financial district and outlying boroughs remain closed. (The city?s official tourism organization, NYC & Company, maintains a list here.

?There?s still be more work to be done in the hardest-hit areas of Brooklyn, Queens and Staten Island but Manhattan, midtown and the Thanksgiving parade will go on,? said Kimberly Spell, chief communication officer for NYC & Co. ?New York City is going to be open and fully operational for the holiday.?

U.S. judge dismisses Hamas financing suit against Arab Bank

NEW YORK (Reuters) - A federal judge on Tuesday threw out a lawsuit brought by a U.S. man wounded in the Middle East who sought to hold Arab Bank liable for providing material support to the Palestinian group Hamas.

U.S. District Judge Jack Weinstein in Brooklyn, New York, held that Mati Gill could not prove Arab Bank was responsible for injuries he sustained in 2008 from gunshots fired from Gaza into Israel.

At the time of the attack, Gill was serving as an aide to Israel's then-public security minister, Avi Dichter, according to the complaint. Gill was wounded by sniper fire while touring Israel's border with a delegation from the Canada-Israel Committee, the complaint said.

In court papers, Gill said an individual purporting to represent Hamas, which has governed in Gaza since 2007, claimed responsibility for the shooting on a Hamas-run website.

Gill, a dual U.S.-Israeli citizen, sued Jordan-based Arab Bank in 2011, claiming it provided financial support to Hamas and coordinated payments to family members of group members killed in action.

He sought monetary damages under the U.S. Anti-Terrorism Act, which allows victims of attacks by U.S.-designated foreign terrorist organizations to seek compensation. The U.S. State Department designated Hamas as such an organization in 1997.

"Moral blame should only follow if the harm caused by providing bank services to terrorists is foreseeable," Weinstein wrote, saying he found insufficient proof Arab Bank had knowledge its actions would lead to a U.S. citizen being harmed.

"Hamas is not the defendant; the bank is," Weinstein wrote. "And the evidence does not prove that the bank acted with an improper state of mind or proximately caused plaintiff's injury."

The case, which had been set to go to trial on November 19, is one of a handful filed against banks in Brooklyn federal court by survivors of Hamas-affiliated attacks.

A lawyer for Gill, Gary Osen, said he was disappointed and intended to appeal.

"This is the first Arab Bank case where the court has evaluated the entire record, and it dismissed the case concluding that the bank was not responsible for the plaintiff's injuries," Bob Chlopak, a spokesman for Arab Bank, said in a statement.
